POND SIZE 5000 GALLONS
Designed for mid-sized koi ponds, the
Cyclone 5000 System provides excellent
mechanical & biological filtration in an
easy-to-clean system. As a bonus, the
Cyclone 5000 System can be customized to
fit your needs with optional 3" and 4" inputs.
The Cyclone 5000 System works best as a
Gravity Fed System, but can be used as a
Combination System. The first chamber is a
Vortex and the solids settle on the bottom,
then the water flows to the 2nd chambers
bottom and comes up through thick, easy to
clean brushes. The water then flows to the
third chamber and goes through thick
matting, before being pumped back into the
pond. Unlike plastic cones, the Cyclone
series of filters are constructed of
heavy-duty fiberglass and will not warp or
distort.

CHECK OUT THE COMPLETE FILTER SYSTEMS LINK FOR READY TO USE, PREASSEMBLED COMPLETE POND FILTER SYSTEMS
|
There are hundreds of Pond Filters available and sometimes choosing the right one is
confusing and difficult. If you have a Water Garden, plants and a small amount of fish,
then you could probably get by with a skimmer filter / waterfall filter (SEE SKIMMER
LINK) and a U.V.light to keep your water clear and your fish healthy. If you are more
interested in a Koi or Goldfish pond, then you will need a good filter system and U.V.
Light to pull the ammonia out of the water and maintain a healthy environment for your
fish. Some systems use pads like the one shown below. Depending on your filter and
fish load, you will have to wash these pads out to keep the water clean and healthy.
These systems work well and the beneficial bacteria builds up on the pads or brushes.
We are strong believers in the bead filters and offer a variety of these filters for you to
compare. These filters are based on swimming pool sand filters, but use different
kinds of "beads" instead of sand to harbor beneficial bacteria to keep your pond water
clean and healthy for your fish. These filters all have pressure gauges to tell you when
the filter needs back flushing. You just turn the handle back and forth from back wash
to rinse until your water being flushed out is clear or the pressure gauge lowers. These
filters seeded with beneficial bacteria work great. If you want to raise the beautiful fish
you purchased, make sure you purchase a good filter. So many people spend a lot of
money on fish, and use a cheap filter system, just to watch their beautiful, one of a
kind fish get sick and die because of poor water quality. Also keep in mind when
purchasing a filter, think ahead, the little Koi you purchased for your pond can grow up
to 3 feet long, which requires a bigger filter down the road. You can never have to
much filtration. We also recommend pulling the water off of the bottom of the pond,
this is where the bad stuff for your fish hides. Call us at 803-796-6743 if you have any
questions, we will be glad to help. We also have the beneficial bacteria available on the
fish and water treatments link. This bacteria is amazing and really works. HIghly
recommended. (Hope this helps)
THESE FILTERS ARE GREAT FOR SLOPED YARDS. THESE FILTERS NEED TO BE POSITIONED
WHERE THE TOP OF THE FILTER IS LEVEL WITH THE TOP OF THE WATER IN YOUR POND. THIS
ALLOWS A GRAVITY FLOW TO THE FILTERS. ONCE THE WATER GOES THROUGH THE FILTERS,
THE CLEAN WATER IS PUMPED BACK TO YOUR POND. THESE FILTERS WORK GREAT WITH A
BOTTOM DRAIN AND ALLOW LEAVES AND OTHER DEBRIS TO BE FILTERED OFF OF THE BOTTOM
INTO THE FIRST SETTLING TANK TO BE FLUSHED OUT LATER. THESE SYSTEMS TAKE ABOUT 20
MINUTES TO FLUSH OUT AND CLEAN.
THE MOST IMPORTANT PURCHASE FOR YOUR POND
|

ABOVE is an example of a retro bottom drain , an external pump with a strainer basket, a Bead Filter and Beneficial Bacteria. These four items will filter the "bad stuff" off of the bottom of your pond and keep your fish happy and healthy. The smaller bead filters work well with a solids handling pump on the bottom of a smaller pond. The solids handling pump pulls the debris off of the bottom and up to the filter. For larger ponds we recommend using a bottom drain. If you already have a pond and did not install a bottom drain, you can easily install the above retro bottom drain without having to drain your pond. We also recommend an external pump and bead filter. The external pumps are known to last for years and are cheaper to run. We also recommend an external pump with a strainer basket. The strainer basket catches the larger debris off of the bottom of the pond before it tries to enter the bead filter. You just have to periodically empty the strainer basket, which is very easy. If you have a lot of debris on the bottom like leaves, a larger strainer basket can be added. (SEE THE PUMP LINK) The larger strainer basket allows you more time between emptying. We are all about less work and more enjoyment of your pond. Please keep in mind when purchasing a pump, the farther the pump has to pull the water the less flow rate it will have. Make sure your pump will have the right flow rate for maximum filtration.

1- Pressurized Tank: is made of either polyethylene or fiberglass for added strength, chemicals and
corrosives resistance. The tank can sustain an operation pressure up to 50 psi. It also comes with
supporting base and a drain plug.
2- 6-Way Multiport Valve: has 6 positions for quick mode change. Filter,Rinse, Re-circulate, Backwash,
Close, Waste. The valve body is made of durable ABS plastic, can sustain a temperature range from
-20 F to 150 F. It also comes with a pressure gauge.
3- Strainer: Newly designed and patented for no-restriction flow. The purpose is to keep large debris
such as leaves, plants entering the filter and also keep the bio media from escaping.
4- Diffuser Column: Newly designed and patented for no-restriction flow. The diffuser column head
has specially designed slots so that in Filter mode it will retain the bio media within the vessel, and in
Backwash mode it will move the water body within the vessel an upward and spiral motion which is
essential for an effective cleaning of the bio media bed.
5- Bio-Media: Newly designed, and patented for extreme mechanical and biological performance. You
will notice an instant water clarity, and with 870 square feet of surface area per cubic foot of media it
out performs any other systems on the market today. The ridges on the outer surface of the media
provide a tighter interstitial spacing with the adjacent media and protect the bio film during
Backwashing. The inner hollow space with extended spikes allow water circulation thru the individual
media and thru the entire media bed which is important for eliminating channeling problems. These
spikes retain dirt within the inner space and also provide tremendous surface area for bacteria
colonization.

Complete, Multi-Functional Filtration for Ponds of up to 3,000 gallons
HydroMAX Pond Filters OUTPERFORM the "Compact" canister style filter and UV Sterilizer combinations because they offer more space for a greater filtering capacity. Each HydroMAX Filter (Standard, Super and Pro) features large filter brushes and filter pads that provide a greater area for capturing and holding more solid waste than competing pond filters. The HydroMAX Pond Filters are made of heavy polyethylene that feature integrated waste settling chambers with dual waste valves for quick and easy filter cleaning and maintenance.
HydroMAX Pond Filters are best suited for ponds of up to 3,000 gallons with moderate fish loads. Since the HydroMAX Pond Filters are completely external filtration systems they must be positioned beside the pond, preferably at the head of a waterfall.
For Best Filtration Results Provide the HydroMAX with a quality, solids handling, 1,500 GPH submersible water pump. For additional solids separation install a Tadpole Filter as a pre-filter on the pump, this will improve pump performance and extend filtration maintenance schedules. Comparing PSP Filter and Sand Filter Performance:
Why are PSP Filters better than Sand Filters? Fine
sand media is intended for swimming pools, and is
not intended for heavy solid waste applications like
ornamental ponds and animal exhibits. Sand Filters
use fine sand. Sand is heavy and easily overloads
with waste, cakes up, and results in media bed
channeling.
Why are PSP Filters better than Floating Bead Filters?
PSP Filters do not use screens or air blowers! Floating
Bead Filters require internal filter screens to prevent
the floating bead media from escaping from the filter.
Screens easily clog with debris/waste.
Filter Diffuser
Non-Obstructive Filter Diffuser
allows large particle waste to exit
from the filter easily. There are no
screens to clog.
Increase filtering and backwash efficiency with our FilterClay
Media. FilterClay is pure, organic clay, finely ground and
granulated into specific sized pellets (4 – 8 mm). These are
then baked at a high temperature inside a rotary kiln, without
the addition of artificial additives, pesticides, or dyes.
FilterClay Media weighs significantly less than sand and
resists caking, creating a more effective filter bed. FilterClay is
better suited for heavy solid waste applications (such as
animal exhibits) and provides an exceptional environment for
colonizing nitrifying bacteria.

designed for "Heavy-Solid Waste" applications in
large pond systems with heavy fish loads. Typically
commercial projects. Similar to its smaller
counterpart, the PSP Filter, Commercial PSP Pond
Filters are also multi-functional filters accomplishing
both, mechanical and biological filtration due to the
use of FilterCLAY media. Enlarged Filter Lateral
openings increase media bed circulation and allow for
the use of larger filter media, such as our FilterCLAY.
This combination of specialized filter laterals and our
4-8 mm FilterCLAY provides better solid waste
capture and a more effective backwash when
compared to other filter media's like fine sand.
Commercial PSP Pond Filters are available in either,
top-mount or side-mount valve styles with

Increase Pressure Filter Performance while Reducing Backwash Frequency
Increase the performance of your pressure filter by installing the Multi-Cyclone 50
pre-filter after the external pump. The Multi-Cyclone 50 is a "Centrifugal, Solids
Separation" pre-filter that literally spins particles (20-100 µm) out of suspension. They
then settle inside the Multi-Cyclone's sediment bowl, where they remain until drained.
Removing solids prior to the pressure filter decreases required cleaning frequencies
and the amount of waste waster used.
NOTE: The Multi-Cyclone filter requires a high-performance pump (3450 RPM motor or
better) in order function properly.
How the Multi-Cyclone Works
Solids laden water enters 16 hydro-cyclones tangentially. The cyclone generate a
strong centrifugal effect. Fine sediment is spun out to the hydro-cyclone's wall and then
spirals down into the sediment bowl. Filtered water migrates towards the center of the
hydro-cyclone chamber where the flow reverses and spins the filtered water upward
through the outlet. Install the Multi-Cyclone after the pump and before the filter.
Multi-Cyclone Filter Advantages
•No Moving Parts to Wear and No Filter Media to Clean or Replace
•Removes Particles between 20-100 µm (microns)
•Reduces Backwash Frequency of Existing Filters
•Durable Filter Construction
•Extends the Life of Filter Media
